Primary Care is available virtually. Access top direct primary care physicians dedicated to understanding patient needs and developing tailored care plans. You will have ongoing access to healthcare via message-based or video interactions.
Virtual Primary Care (VPC) can lead to cost savings for members by minimizing expenses associated with transportation, parking, and potential time-off from work. Preventive care through virtual consultations may contribute to early intervention, reducing the likelihood of costly medical treatments.

With certain plans and situations, you have help with an in-person appointment: our copay MEC (Minimal Essential Coverage) plan, with a Medical Cost Sharing (MCS) issue once you've exceeded your Initial Unshared Amount (IUA), or our preventative care MEC. In each situation, you select a provider with no required network.

Our copay Minimal Essential Coverage (MEC) plan helps with qualified $5 generic prescriptions. Both the ‘preventative care’ MEC and copay MEC's 'preventative care', include certain prescriptions considered preventative at low or no cost to you.

Telehealth (sometimes called Telemedicine) lets you see a health care provider without having to go to their office. You can access telehealth video or phone consultations via your computer, tablet, or smartphone.
What is Medical Cost Sharing?
Medical Cost Sharing is a non-insurance alternative healthcare approach to traditional health insurance. It involves a community of like-minded individuals and families who agree to share each other's medical expenses.
Members typically pay a monthly "share" into a pool, which is then used to cover the medical expenses of other members as they arise. Members agree to abide by certain guidelines, such as leading a healthy lifestyle and not engaging in certain high-risk behaviors. Additionally, pre-existing conditions may not always be shared.
Does Medical Cost Sharing use deductibles and co-insurance like traditional health insurance?
No. When a member incurs an eligible medical expense that exceeds their Initial Unshareable Amount (IUA) of $500, $1,000, or $1,500 for a specific eligible Need, any remaining balance relative to that specific Need is eligible for sharing consideration once the IUA for that single Need has been paid by the member.
What is MEC (Minimum Essential Coverage)?
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) is any health insurance coverage that meets the individual shared responsibility requirement, also known as the individual mandate. While the federal tax penalty for not having MEC is no longer in effect for individuals (in most states), MEC is essential for various types of employer-sponsored healthcare benefits.

What kind of company is beCause?
The beCause Medical Cost Sharing Community is a nonprofit Medical Cost Sharing Community that offers a non-insurance approach for managing large and unexpected medical expenses and is focused on serving the engaged healthcare consumer. beCause facilitates the direct sharing of medical costs among our participating Members (the Community).
What other features are included with a beCause Medical Cost Sharing Community membership?
A beCause membership includes access to additional tools including convenient telehealth services for basic healthcare needs, expert second opinions, a cash pay marketplace, and medical bill negotiation services when needed to ensure the Members are not overpaying for their healthcare costs. Some Memberships may include add-ons and/or additional products that are not owned, operated, serviced, or maintained by beCause. beCause makes no warranty regarding the websites, resources, materials, products, transactions, and services provided by third parties. beCause makes no representations or warranties that every or all Memberships include any add-on/additional product(s). Members can utilize the Member Portal for more information on what their Membership includes.
Is beCause an Insurance Company?
No. beCause is a nonprofit Medical Cost Sharing Community that offers a non-insurance approach for managing large and unexpected medical expenses. Insurance arrangements are a contract whereby one party agrees to be legally responsible for and accept another party’s risk of loss in exchange for a payment — a premium. Medical cost sharing is an arrangement whereby members agree to share medical expenses through an act of voluntary giving. The beCause MCS Community is not licensed or registered by any insurance board or department. The beCause MCS Community does not assess applicants’ health risks, because the beCause Medical Cost Sharing Community Members are assuming financial liability for any other Member’s risk.
